What happened to the Frost Middle School time capsule?

In either 1997 or 1998, I attended Robert Frost Middle School, and I’ll never forget when our teachers asked us to contribute a special item into a time capsule.

I have no idea what I put in the time capsule but I do remember what my then-friend Brent put into the time capsule: a Magic: The Gathering Ice Age starter deck. At the time, I thought it was crazy…we should have opened it up and played with it. It cost, at the time, $7.95.

These days, because of the age of the cards, a sealed pack of them is worth about $200.

A few weeks ago, I reached out to the front office of the middle school and inquired about the time capsule: What happened to it? Did anybody know?

One of the front office staff referred me to the principal, saying she would pass on my information.

I didn’t hear anything, so I reached out again, and this time I got the principal’s email.

I sent an email, and after several weeks, heard nothing back.

I wrote again, this time I got a response from Joey Jones, principal of Robert Frost Middle School: “Thank you for your email. I am not aware of a time capsule initiated in 1997/98. I started at Frost in 2003.”

I wrote him back: “Is there anyone who does know? Can you point me in any other direction?” I received no reply.

I reached out to Brent and told him the news. He remembers putting it in the time capsule, and I specifically remember putting something in…and it wasn’t just the two of us…it was a whole class.

What happened to it? Where is it? Was it buried? Was it put in a storage closet? Forgotten? Did someone open it? If the principal has been at the school since 2003, did someone do something with the time capsule between 1997 and 2003? Was it ever supposed to be a time capsule?

I’m very interested to find this…and I’m sure others would be, too. The question I have is…what do I do next?
